I was particularly interested in Peter Binns article about Herbert Hancock….as Herb, as I call him was my Uncle by marriage. Herbert [ who was a master plasterer] married Lilian Charlotte Thompson on 29th August 1934, at Christ Church. Lillian was always known as Molly . She had a younger brother John Eric Thompson [ know by many as Jack] who was my father and was born in 1918 at The Grove Dairy [ they delivered milk around the village first by horse and cart later in a Ford car] to Henry Frank Thompson, always known as Frank and Lillian Mary Thompson [ ne Webb] always known as Lill. My parents married at Christ Church in 1946 [Hazel was bridesmaids] My father became a Barclays Bank Manager and lived most of his working life in West Byfleet, he and my mother Dorothy Betty retired to Horsell. They are both buried in Christ Church grave yard. When Frank died Lill moved over the road to Cherry Tree Cottage. When she died Herb and Molly built a house in what had been the Cottage’s garden. The house is called Malshanger. Herbs sister lived next door. Lill brother William Harvey Webb and family lived in a house next door to The Otter, [ now flats] As you say Herb and Molly moved down to the Bath area to be near their daughter Hazel who still lives there with her husband Bryan. I have sent this article on to her. Bryan still rings bells from time to time as does their eldest son Christopher. Hazel and Bryan were married at Christ Church in 1958, I was a bridesmaid. I also married there in 1976 their daughter Lucy was one of my bridesmaid. Hope you find this of interest ?
